OK, i have learned my lesson. and i will not do this again... well maybe i will if people insist on bringing up the later era dead over and over//// sorry moldy peaches i have never seen you here before but it seems like almost everyday someone wants to trot out 95 for review.... so, ok.......

while the only shows i got to see were mostly 88-91, and i think there are a few still listenable shows from THAT period -- it is all just part of the dissent into silence... unfortunate but true.

VINCE: i dont think he brought much to the dead.... and i think he possibly was the one that lead them down some very bad roads, as in the BAD "i want to tell you" from this show.... like, WHY? why? please tell me -- this is pure TIME KILLING stuff. as an improviser vince was downright DETRIMENTAL. i would call it CAPTAIN TRAINWRECK V. CAPTAIN TRIPS.... really..... i think he completely lacks any sense of taste, much less, does he bring anything interesting to the table.

the bird song is a good example -- this is an uninteresting, bad train wreck jam -- that just falls back on stupid, mis-used dissonance.... -- likewise the ESTIMATED - a tired version -- jerry sounds better than the ENTIRE REST OF THE BAND -- and he never really solos, just keeps time and toys around with his usual part. vince adds a bunch of useless NOODLING to no effect, if anything his playing is just a distraction... (and i dont get it... did BOBBY bring him in? that would be ironic, they often seem to be at odds. different from Brent, who i think bobby had a good rapport with....)

like i said peaches, you just happen to be catching this flame -- but with so much amazing music played from 67 - 81/82..... i just find the sound and quality of the later years to be not even barely worth my time -- they stopped sounding like a BAND -- and started sounding like cubicles.

not just bad Dead, BAD MUSIC all around....

agree that Vince took away from the band. First his piano skills were not impressive - I played piano for 10 years and could do 1/2 of the stuff he did without practicing. What is even worse is how his vocals fucked up songs. I can't listen to any Iko Iko with Vince singing because he butchered the chorus every time....as the other vocalists would lower their pitch during "Iko Iko all day..." Vince would raise his pitch during that time in the same fashion EVERY SINGLE TIME and I just want to stick an apple in his mouth. So just about Iko Iko's 90 - 95 are basically unlistenable to me.

well, i at least understand what he was trying to do as a vocalist and he doesn't bother me on this iko.... he is simply doing his part. certainly, THE MAIN reason he was brought in was to sing the high harmony parts, which he does pretty well....

that being said i do not find Vince's voice pleasing in any way.... which is pretty important wouldn't you say? so OK, he can sing back up -- but never should have been given a lead, which i believe he was on some dreadful song called Snowboarding in the Rain or something -- what do i know, i've never been able to listen to it for more than a second...

and that being said -- jerry manages to sound pretty pleasing on this version pf IKO-- i will give peaches that -- especially considering it was a good ten plus years by 95 since jerry could sing very well.

the problem w/vince was there was A LOT of time between lines of backup singing and he often chose to play various keyboards during those times -- not to mention, getting the band to do lots of bad covers. i dont know if it's true -- i am just blaming him -- if there is a song i really hate that they did it was Gimme Some Lovin, or Dear Mr Fantasy -- but now, those are somebody elses fault aren't they.......
